Pete R. Smiths Box

Extra Track fan Pete R. has previously created a box set of all the Joy Division and New Order singles from Recycle (4 photos, starting here). He recently completed his own Smiths box taken from the work posted here. This thing is gorgeous - check it out.

The cover star is Jeanne Moreau.

  1. I would pay money for this. This is beautiful.

I actually made a single disc version featuring all of the a-sides (though certainly nowhere near the professional quality of the above box set. Just a burnt CD.)

I took a few liberties with the tracklist, adding two non-Rough Trade singles ("Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before" and "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out"), though I think it improves the overall flow of the collection. I also thought about adding the Sandie Shaw version of "Hand In Glove", but decided against it (it felt too... thrown in, too "bonus track").

Anyways, if anyone's interested, here's the tracklist. According to iTunes, its 1 hour, 12 minutes, and 39 seconds, so there's some room for variation.

Also, I called it "Passions Just Like Mine: The Singles Collection", partially because I like that lyric, and partially because it was around the time that the website of the same name announced that it was closing its doors. Just seemed to fit.

    01. Hand In Glove
    02. This Charming Man
    03. What Difference Does It Make?
    04. Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now
    05. William, It Was Really Nothing
    06. Barbarism Begins At Home
    07. How Soon Is Now?
    08. Shakespeare's Sister
    09. That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore
    10. The Boy With The Thorn In His Side (Single Version)
    11. Bigmouth Strikes Again
    12. Panic
    13. Ask (Single Version)
    14. Shoplifters Of The World Unite
    15. Sheila Take A Bow
    16. Girlfriend In A Coma
    17. I Started Something I Couldn't Finish
    18. Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before
    19. Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me
    20. There Is A Light That Never Goes Out

Figured I'd post this since some of you might be interested, and also its kinda related to the above boxset.

  2. Work of art. Work of art!

  3. Something made me click on what I'd assumed was now a 'dead blog' and I'm glad I did...this is simply exquisite and would perfectly complement last year's album box set. If anyone is listening?

  4. great looking box set and it looks total quality, just a shame all the tracks are lossy quality which spoils it slightly for such a great looking item, what would have been amazing would have been to put all these 'singles' out in lossless quality

  5. That is quite simply astonishing, beautiful.

(Can you make me one too?! Pretty please...)

  6. every now and then I click on the bookmark from this page, knowing nothing much is happening here anymore.. but hoping for something new. Glad i did, excellent stuff!
And to all record companies/labels.. this is how you do it!

  7. That is quite beautiful. There's clearly demand for this wonderful packaging, I wonder if we could persuade Pete R to put more together for other fans? I understand that money couldn't change hands for profit but what I would gladly pay all costs and make a financial donation to a charity of someone (Pete R's, Moz's?) choice.

  8. I have no words, that boxset is amazing, it looks incredible!

  9. This collection is wonderful, a real labor of love. Thank you so much!

Mediafire ink is removed for "William, It Was Really Nothing" zip file

I would be so happy if you would repost it.

  10. This boxset has the true visual of The Smiths. Spectacular and gorgeous.
