we interrupt this blog to present...

Have no fear, the next installment is imminent.

That said, intrepid followers will note that a recent upgrade of sorts - to put it lightly - of the legendary Troy Tate 1st LP sessions has emerged via smithstorrents.co.uk, courtesy Soundsville Paul (one of a few hardcore followers/tapers of the band in the UK during their heyday), who presumably obtained a copy close to the master from one of those legendary "friends of the band".

Most of the tracks have been available (in lesser fidelity) over at smithstorrents, but a key unreleased take of Accept Yourself was part of this latest batch.

I wanted to highlight it here, because it's entirely fitting with the spirit of the program, and in retrospect would have been a nice "extra track" to one of the previously-addressed singles.

So without further ado, here is the Analog Loyalist April 2011 mastering of the unreleased (err, unleaked until this past weekend) second take of "Accept Yourself", only previously known via Simon Goddard's mention of it in his book The Songs That Saved Your Life:
"[two different attempts at 'Accept Yourself'], the second version being particularly impressive with its staccato rock 'n' roll piano punches during the pre-chorus breakdowns, Morrissey's doubled vocal and some enlivening falsetto shrieks."
The "falsetto shrieks" and doubled vocal (and piano) simply have to be heard to believe, while the piano sorta fits, the vocal additions are laughable!

  1. That's wonderful, look forward to the rest............when is the next single coming out? This is just like waiting for the local record shop to open with this weeks new releases.............

  2. @soundsville: Know what you mean, I had the same "is it open yet? is it open yet?" anticipatory exuberance when my partner-in-blog was running the New Order Recycle site ;)

Next single is ready as soon as we get it from our distributor...err...artwork half, who (last I heard a couple days ago) is still wrapping up the artwork. So not long!

  3. Any chance of a flac of the improved Troy Tate Sessions?

  4. looking forward to, and we be grateful for, any thing you give us.
the upgrade troy tate RATF already posted was superb - thanks again

  5. It's not really within the scope of this blog to post the entire Tate set as FLAC; I only posted "Accept Yourself" as a taster and offering to those of you (all of you?) patiently waiting for the next single(s).

I'm currently in a raucous debate with myself if I should update the Tate "RATF" fake single previously posted with upgraded B-sides as taken from this new set. We will see.

That said, it's not at all outside the realm of possibility the improved set, as a whole, will show up at our sister blog The Power of Independent Trucking at some future point ;)

  6. I'm a bit confused by the versions/speeds discussions at smithstorrents. Might hold off until it (hopefully) appears either here or at TPOIT :)

  7. This Smiths' preservation program is your creation. Please feel free to 're-issue' one of your previously released singles, with 'Accept Yourself' as an extra track. It is all excellent! Thank You, BackLot.

  9. How I wish you also liked The Cure... oh, well!

  10. I second the Cure comment. I love the albums, but I think they were a great singles band. Still a ways to go on this project - but give it a thought for the next one...

  11. I am a Cure fan, our co-host even more so. We have discussed giving them "the treatment" in the past, but my knowledge of their history, discography and general passion for them pales compared to my Big Three: NO/JD, REM and Smiths. Except for Disintegration, I think they lost the plot roundabout The Top.

  12. Oooooooooooh R.E.M. would be a fun one for your next singles project. As far as I can tell, they don't really have anything in the way of a comprehensive singles boxset.

I'm not sure where you'd place the cut-off point though. My two guesses would either be "Finest Worksong" (their final single on I.R.S. Records), or "How the West Was Won and Where It Got Us" (their final single with drummer Bill Berry).

I'm still quite an R.E.M. noob, so these two points just seem like the logical cut-offs. Admittedly though, the second cut-off point would create quite a massive project (36 singles including both versions of "Radio Free Europe").

  13. re: the cure.

people should purchase "join the dots" and the album reissues with the bonus cds. they seem pretty comprehensive.

i'd say "bloodflowers" was their last good album. after that, they ditched their keyboard player, and their music suffered for it. sort of like what new order did on their last two albums.

  14. re: The Cure/"Join The Dots"

Two problems with it: The sound is not great. It's fairly comprehensive, but it and the recent remasters are missing lots of 12-inch versions.

This may be remedied by the rumored "Mixed Up" rerelease - but I'm betting there will still be plenty of missing mixes. Keep it in mind for the future...

  15. Waiting For The Sirens Call is a classic New Order album. As good as Brotherhood, better than Movement.

  16. About New Order, Gillian Gilbert still played on Get Ready and my only problem with it since Mr. Analog Loyalist remastered it are Bernard's lame lyrics in half of the songs.
Regarding The Cure, the remasters, including Join the Dots (which I own), are awfully loud. I would draw the line for them on the Wish era, after which Boris Williams and Porl Thompson left the band and crippled their sound. Although I don't dislike the awkward Wild Mood Swings, the album really suffers from the absence of those two and the album is also way overcompressed. From Bloodflowers on, except for a handful of songs, they became so lame it makes me want to cry.

  17. well join the dots wasnt missing anything really

it was b sides and the odd songs that where on eps and stuff there was not supposed to be anything special as major hits

that was about it was complete i owned most of the 12 inches and 7 inches and 10 inches of that time and it was all there

    The US Got lucky
because they got b sides that were not heard by most of the teen fans of the time unless ya went down to Melrose Blvd in Hollywood and bought your import records there From Bleeker Bobs Or Vinyl Fetish or Aron's

and as for the 12 inch mixes not being put on any of the the remasters its shame there fan favorites not being put on the remastered

hope there will be future project for the cure recycle blog it would be nice to hear these bad boys worked on

  18. Still looking forward to the next installment - the long time between them does give me time to sort out what I want to do with the albums. But I DO hope it will be soon, lovely people out there.

  19. i guess the smiths recycle will take some time and then there's quite a few great things in the new order pipeline we can look forward to, but since people are making wishes already for the time to come after that i would like to throw in two bands that had great 7" and 12" singles with great music AND graphics:

    ORCHESTRAL MANÅ’UVRES IN THE DARK

    and

    KISSING THE PINK

but until then, thanks a lot for all the great stuff you've already given to us, it's very much appreciated!

    greetings from berlin!

It's now confirmed that you & I have very different definitions of the term 'imminent', my friend!

Hope all's well and waiting for the next post with bated breath.

    Cheers,

    David.

  21. Where's Killing an Arab in the reissue series? Where's the next single in this series? Joanne Whalley's Smiths Project is coming soon - the art work looks as if it's going to be as beautiful as the songs (shame the manufacturer botched up!)

Thanks again for all. The question is have you redefined the word IMMINENT!?!?!?! (wot no smilies???)

  22. re: The Cure | Join the Dots

This is such a great collection but the sound is pretty weak. All tracks sound IMO like 128k. Also, the last two album 4:13Dream sounds so compressed I can't really listen to it. Shame, shame.

  23. I disagree about our loyal blogger friend doing any kind of Recycle for “The Cure”.

First, The Cure (Robert Smith) takes care of their fans. Their reissues are amazing: period rarities, live material, demo’s, rehearsal material………fantastic. Second, “Join the Dots” was very comprehensive document of the B-sides and I thought the mastering was fine. That was a fantastic release.

I think our blogger friends deserve a long deserved break from any Recycle endeavors after this.

Sorry Mr. Loyalist, I have to completely disagree with you’re comments about The Cure losing the plot around The Top. The album just after The Top, “Head On The Door” is a classic. “Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me” has it’s highs and lows granted; but the highs……...“Like Cockatoos” and “The Snakepit” among others are classics.

And as you said, “Disintegration” is amazing. Probably a notch behind “Pornography.“

You guys could find a more deserving band to cover; a band that doesn’t take care of their fans. Thanks again for all the hard work.

  24. Any chance that we can get confirmation that you got a cease and desist order for this blog? It's been months since we've heard a peep.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @all: I love how we've redefined "imminent" :) In cosmologic terms, yes, the next post is imminent (as is the next ice age, the next 9.0 earthquake on the New Madrid faultline in Illinois/Missouri, etc..).

In all seriousness both myself and my blogmate are active in other endeavours as well, and with life, there are priorities that need to be met. That said, the audio for the entire run is mastered/ready, it's the artwork side of things that takes time and my blogmate is about as much a perfectionist as Moz and Saville are. So, it'll be posted when it's posted.

Rest assured no C&D orders have been received, nor have we been DMCA'ed. And I do not expect to either.

    -Analog Loyalist

  26. I vote we lock up Mr. 50PoundNote playing the The Cure Remasters non-stop until he is done with all the artwork! Which I guess would be pretty soon... today, actually!

  27. "Rest assured no C&D orders have been received, nor have we been DMCA'ed. And I do not expect to either."

    Good to know..

..have you received some intel from M & M? Are they aware of the blog?

  28. I know I'm coming in late to this discussion, but being a massive cure fan, you can pretty much recreate any cure single by yourself.

BUT - if you are looking for the next 'recycle' project... i've got the perfect band:

    MY BLOODY VALENTINE

all of their pre-sire catalog is out of print, there is a decent amount of rare stuff, and all of it is in desperate need of a remaster.
